I just got home from our concert at the Apollo Theatre in Harlem. It was really interesting to visit Harlem - in my mind it has always been a dangerous place, and so I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is in fact quite charming. Apparently, it has been cleaned up in the last couple of decades.
There is a Volta launch party starting any minute now, but I have a slight cold and generally feel under the weather. So I’ll just take it easy!
Inspite of feeling ill, I had a really good time at the concert. From my point of view, it was our best, so far. And the audience seemed enthusiastic.
I was extremely nervous at the beginning… as always. But I guess it will wear off after a while. Hopefully I won’t get TOO relaxed; a certain amount of nervousness is necessary to keep you on your toes.
The days of a show consist mostly of waiting as I believe I have already said. This time I remembered to bring a book!
We will be back on the road soon. We will spend most nights for the next two weeks on “sleeping coaches”, travelling by night and staying in various hotels during the day. I wonder how well I’ll manage to sleep on a bus… Hmmm. Never done it before!
I’m kind of glad that we are moving again. As a group we have been quite scattered here in New York, but starting to travel again will bring us back together.

I’m glad that you think it was your best show so far; I concur. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time!! There were 18 songs in this set… or am I just crazy? “Cover Me” was very cleverly performed, considering you and Bjork were both “covered” by the curtain while performing it… indeed, very, very clever.
I hope you all enjoyed your time in New York!!

It’s a great album. I really liked it.
Hope the tour is as fun to you as it is to the viewers.
One question: Is there any achance, even as slim as a supermodel, that i’ll see you in greece?

Those tour busses are actually really comfortable. For me, the white noise of the bus traveling across the highway is really relaxing.
Can’t wait for next week’s Red Rocks show in Denver!! I’m counting down the days!

i live in Harlem!
i moved here when it was bad; thats how i could afford a nice apartment on my own. its been so interesting to watch the neighborhood grow & change. there are some old ladies in my building who’ve lived in their apartments since they were children, the apartments are passed down in the family. theyve got some crazy stories to tell!
ive lived lots of places & i feel that people are generally nice & want to be helpful everywhere; its just a matter of negotiating accents & customs.
i’m still reeling & wallowing in the good feelings from UNITED PALACE!
ive begun my illustration of the whole show, but you can see the beginnning here (i start with björk & work my way outwards, you will all be included!):

i think you will have a lovely time on the bus! they rock you to sleep! & you should listen to Willie Nelson’s ON THE ROAD AGAIN & Dolly Parton’s THE LIGHT OF A CLEAR BLUE MORNING (the original version from her album NEW HARVEST, not her 90s remake) as you travel!
my copy of VOLTA came yesterday & it is pure joy!
i love peeling back the layers!
much love to you all & happy trails!
aloha oe!

Just so you know: Bjork’s performance (with you) at the Apollo was quite literally the best show I have ever been to, and I have been to several Bjork concerts (I liked her since I was six, when I saw her on television performing with the Sugarcubes). I sat front row in the center and was moved to tears when I was not leaping around like a fool on a sugar high. Thank you for your amazing performance. You all did a wonderful job.

Please let me say that last night’s performance at the Apollo was undoubtedly the best show I have ever been to, and I have been to several Bjork concerts (I started listening to her music when I was 10). Of course, sitting in the first row, directly in the center didn’t hurt either. Thank you for such a wonderful performance! You all were fantastic. The only thing that would have made last night better is, of course, if I could have dueted with Bjork.
But I’ll keep the memory of last night close.

Wishing you and the crew all the best on your travels. The new album is positively ecstatic!
Give my blessings to Björk if you have a chance.
Peace,
Kevin

I was at the United Palace and loooved the show! I think i was the youngest, that’s crazy…I live in Montreal and couldn’t miss it!!! You guys are all genius haha. The energy was so strong…the show is too short, after Declare Independance, I thought it was the end of the firts part…Anyway I screamed a lot and couldn’t believe I was there! I wish I could tell Bjork I came from Montreal to see her at the NYC show, like catching her after the show or something, but of course that was impossible. Maybe you can tell everybody that someone came from Montreal to watch you playing amazing music!? Congratulation.

Today Volta came out for sale in Mexico. Certainly I ran to buy it. The version that I have is the special edition for Latin America. Will you come to Mexico? Please! I love the song “Dull Flame of Desire” GREETINGS!
