We did our concert in Chicago Auditorium last night. We started with Cover Me, which led directly to Earth Intruders.
Something about the fire display didn’t work out quite as it should. Right afterwards ashes rained over us. I don’t think anybody in the audience noticed, but it was very disconcerting to have once hands - and the keyboard - covered in ashes. I can only imagine how it must have been for Björk.
Our supporting group was Ghostigital. I like their music - admittedly it is very barbaric, but at the same time strangely refined. It is chaotic, but also organized. Cannibals in tuxedos?
This morning I woke up in Omaha, Nebraska, which is more or less in the centre of the US. It has been very hot today and I took a nap in the afternoon. In the evening some of us walked downtown, which is very charming in a cowboyish sort of way. So it was a bit surreal to have a dinner at Persian restaurant. Which was very good, by the way!

That sucks that this happened during the concert. Everyone that I talked to didn’t notice it and the show still rocked. Way to keep going! You did an awesome job. Your part during ‘Cover Me’ is very mystical and sounded so good. I thank you, Bjork and all the other crew members for a really awesome show.

In Chicago, I was just dying with excitement, I could hardly breathe. The first few songs, I was just in awe - I was finally seeing Bjork and she was more amazing than I expected. By mid show I came to and was dancing and screaming my head off. Declare Independence definitely got me pumped. How could I go home after that? That show was not long enough, it went too fast.
By the way - I thought Ghostigital was pretty cool. The beats were danceable and the energy was right on.
I have a question - there was the most interesting instrument that looked like a yo-yo - what was that?
Well, I’ll be reading the blog - I wish I could go to every show - you are all amazing!

Oh, by the way, I was 1st balcony and everyone was talking about how cool the fire display was. We all had to close our eyes, it was so bright. It was spectacular!

Aw. It’s kind of sad to hear you didn’t like the Chicago show as much as the other ones. Maybe because you messed up a little in Venus As A Boy and some other songs? (with all due respect)
And by the way, i couldn’t hear you playing in Earth Intruders, not even in some videos i’ve seen.
Anyway, this show was spectacularly amazing. I still watch the videos everyday

Sorry, but you are mistaken. There was no messup in Venus as a Boy, though my arrangement of it contains some dissonant chords to create dramatic tension that might be misunderstood as such. Björk made a face because of the screams from the audience.
The reason I didn’t like the Chicago show as much as the others is for an entirely different reason. Don’t get me wrong! It was a good show and I’m glad you liked it. But it was less the spirit of Volta than the others. I really can’t explain it any better than that.
As for EI it has frequently been marred by technical problems that have nothing to do with us performers.

I was at the Chicago show and also at Coachella and I know what you mean about it just not capturing the total spirit of Volta . The energy was just different somehow even though it was still a good show.
It was hot as hell in that auditorium so maybe that had something to do with it . Also maybe by that time you all were a bit exhausted.
We still had fun .

Oh, I get it now. Thank you for explaining. And yes, i think i know what you mean by the Volta spirit thing. I personally felt a little disappointed about the setlist having so many Vespertine songs, but that’s ok too. It was all brilliant. And you performers were all excellent
