Japanese music magazine ROCKIN´ON Summer Festival Special features
a quite long interview with Björk from when she was in Venice, where she
also talks about the tour and shortly about her new album. Rico
was kind enough to translate a few quotes for us;
You introduced 3 new songs already at the London show, and
especially 'Where Is The Line?' with its hard beats was very impressive.
The set also featured songs from 'Homogenic' as well as from 'Vespertine'.
So I was thinking that you maybe again are driven by diplomatic and
at the same time agressive energies. What do you think about that?
Yeah, maybe. I
prepared 26 songs for the tour, you know... and every night Ipicked 16 songs
out. My collaboration with Matmos until then was only about fragile songs and
we never actually played them loud together. So London was the first time we
tried to play loud songs, almost like we would do a rehearsal. But after that
it more and more changed into sets with different types of songs. And because
I did 'Vespertine' knowing right from the start that a tour would need an orchestra
and a choir, I have this limitation that depending on the song I can't sing
it because something is missing.
When will the new album come out?
Hmm... I don't
know. I'm blessed that I don't get a deadline from the record company and they
wait until Icomplete it, but if my work progresses the way it always did, I
plan to finish before Christmas. So the release would be... what, next summer?
But this is no promise. I believe that my ego is in a really special place right
now. And it this place is, like you said earlier, an advanced place. Therefore
I think not to hurry is most important. I feel that I can reach all possible
places of emotions and I want to go there. Anyway... I want to make a good album.
